Neighbours

Shelby & the Neighbours (SATN) are a three-piece rock band from Western Australia (Perth & Busselton). The band consists of members Jules (guitar/vocals), Josh (bass) and Adam (drums); three long-time friends and music enthusiasts.

The band released their debut EP, the first of a planned trilogy; the butcher in late 2015. Second EP, 'the Baker' was released in 2017 with the final instalment, the candlestick maker,’ released the following year. The butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker, were each recorded and mixed at RADA studios with local producers Matt Gio and Dan Carroll.

SATN’s music is inspired by a diverse and eclectic range of bands and artists; the result of three music devotees with differing but overlapping tastes writing together. Sometimes pop, sometimes heavy, while SATN are predominately a rock band, they often incorporate elements of other genres into their music, producing an original sound of their own.

Lyrically, SATN’s music is also somewhat of a mixed bag. Nothing is off limits, with front man Jules tackling issues and subjects ranging from architecture to drug addiction, friendship to the benefits of paper towel. In a review of the baker for Divide and Conquer, Ryan Ansel writes, “I’m impressed by how dynamic frontman Jules’ vocals are. He switches mid-sentence from a spoken-word, punk vocal style to a growl. The transitions are seamless and surprisingly pleasant to the ear.”

The band have been building a steady following, playing many shows across Perth and Fremantle over the past three years. Opening track ‘bespoke,’ from the baker was shortlisted for top 20 of 2017 by 89.7fm’s Live and Local and selected as one of The Garage’s favourite tunes of the year. SATN’s music has received regular radio play on Radio Fremantle’s Generation Strange. The band have appeared twice on the show to guest program music and will be launching the candlestick maker on air in April with a live performance of the EP.

In addition to the release of their third EP, 2018 will see the band focus on playing shows, showcasing new and older tunes from the SATN catalogue.
